Description

Your dog may have dimensions that just don't fit into a single size. That's where our mix-and-match option comes in handy. Mixing and matching the sizes of the front harness and rear hip lift is often used to appropriately fit a dog when they are barrel-chested or when age and atrophy have impacted their hind quarters. The front and back portions of the Help 'Em Up Harness are available separately and all sizes connect easily to one another.

Trusted by veterinarians

"Having recommended the Help 'Em Up harness to countless dog families in my practice, I only fully grasped its value when I had to use it for my own dogs—Serissa, then Duncan, and finally Sam. The experience was a game-changer. Not only did it provide crucial support for my pets, but it also spared my back from strain. By enhancing their support and mobility, it significantly improved their quality of life and extended their years. The combination of features and comfort makes this harness my top recommendation for any patient struggling with mobility issues. It's simply unparalleled!"

Sizing

Your dog's total weight is still the most important reference point to work from when mixing sizes. Consider the following:

Age/Condition

For older dogs that may be struggling with atrophy or degenerative hind quarters, sizing down the harness rear may be needed to achieve an optimal fit.

Tip: Consider where your dog’s total weight falls within a size range. If your dog weighs at the lower end, a smaller rear harness might help — a 55lb dog with a degenerative hind may benefit from a small size rear, while a 75lb dog with similar build would do well with a full medium. If you are unsure, measure your dog’s hind quarter and explore our full sizing chart below.

Breed

Occasionally, some barrel-chested breeds may require a larger harness front in order to achieve an optimal fit. If your barrel-chested dog’s total weight is between sizes, consider our Mix & Match option —nsize up the front and size down the rear.

Helpful Tip

Your dog's total weight is the most important measurement when choosing the correct size. To be certain, you can also refer to the sizing chart below and measure your dog. If you are still unsure, our dedicated team is always here for you. Rest assured that if you need to exchange for a different size, we have a 14-day hassle-free exchange policy.

Ready? Set? Measure!

To measure your dog, make sure you have a fabric measuring tape.

The tape should be snug to get an accurate measurement.

GIRTH

This is the deepest part of your dogs’ chest (measure all the way around its rib cage).

WAIST

This measurement is all the way around your dogs’ hips, specifically right in front of their hind legs.

NECK

Although the girth and waist are the most important measurements, the neck measurement is also helpful.

All Your Questions, Answered

How long can my dog wear the Help 'Em Up Harness?

It can be worn comfortably for extended periods of time, but we do suggest giving your dog a break when it’s not needed. Let them sleep without it if possible. Have a dog that needs a 3am potty break? Just take it off when you come back inside.

Loosen the straps when your dog wants to lie down in it to help prevent hot spots, chafing or overheating.

When left alone, some pups may start to chew on the harness, so we suggest inspecting the harness often. Watch for signs of discomfort, hot spots, and overheating and remove immediately if your dog is bothered.

Is it possible for my dog to relieve themself wearing the dog harness?

Yes! The support straps between your dog’s hind legs are held apart by their tail, giving full clearance for defecation. Both male and female dogs can comfortably urinate with the Conventional Hip Lift without issue. For those male dogs whose penis is further back between their hind legs, we recommend the U-Band Hip Lift.

Is the harness washable?

Yes, all of our dog lifting harnesses can be machine or hand washed, but we recommend air drying (dryers tend to dry out the neoprene over time). Clean regularly with mild soap and consider using a Help ‘Em Up Wash Bag to increase longevity. We do not recommend bleach or other harsh detergents. If urine odor is an issue, soak in white vinegar and water (1:3 ratio) and wash with mild soap. There are also commercial cleaners available that can help to cut odor.

Can I use the back-end Hip Lift by itself?

No. The front half of the dog harness can be used alone but the Hip Lift (the back half) needs to connect to the front half to stay in place, otherwise it can slip off and cause an injury.

What can I do with my dog harness if I no longer need it?

Donate it! Your local vet, vet hospital, therapist, animal shelter, or adoption clinic likely has many dogs who are in need of this support.
